The Importance of Setting Limits for Preschoolers


As much as some moms and dads would like to think so, there simply arenít any perfect parents. And, try as you might like, itís nearly impossible to be a good parent without training and discipline. Limits are one form of discipline and itís helpful to know the importance of setting limits for preschoolers.

Parents often set limits for their children, not only for disciplinary reasons, but also to help keep their children safe. So itís helpful to know how to set limits, how to enforce the limits once theyíre set, and what consequences to use if the limits are ignored. Of course, the consequences for ignoring the limits will be different depending upon the age of the children in question.

Children who feel like theyíre loved and valued by their parents will be more willing to accept correction and limits. Why not plan individual ìdatesî with each of your children to help solidify their sense of value to the family?

Limits may be used to help your preschooler learn what is acceptable and what is not so they can learn self-control. Young children have a tendency to want what they want when they want it, so you may have some challenges in store for you. Donít give up - you can do this.

Be ready to tell your child ìnoî quite often during the process. Try to explain why they canít do something rather than just telling them no, for example: ìYou canít do this today because itís raining, but perhaps you can do this instead.î Give them an option when you tell them no.
Why are limits important? Limits actually help your preschooler feel like you care, especially when you share with them the reason why the limit is being set. They will also feel more secure even though the limit isnít enjoyable. Give them fair warning if you expect them to stop doing something since some children have problems with abrupt changes.

Know what you expect out of your preschooler, and agree upon those things as parents and partners, before you tell your child. Itís also helpful to know what your child is able to do and what theyíre not able to do yet. Learning how to discipline effectively and encourage co-operation is also helpful.

When you set a limit, no matter what the limit is, itís important to be consistent when reinforcing the limit. If you tell your preschooler they have a time limit to finish what theyíre doing, be sure to stop what youíre doing and enforce the time limit when the time comes. Following through is as important as setting the limit in the first place. By being consistent with your limits, your child learns they can trust you to do what you say.

Try not to set too many limits at one time. Your child needs to be able to achieve success with following one limit before moving on to another. You may repeat yourself during the training process, but the results will be worth it in the future.

Pay attention to how the limits you set are affecting your preschooler. You know the importance of setting limits for preschoolers, but you donít want to crush their spirit in the process. Be sure they know you love them even though you have to establish limits.

2,072 words, tells long tales, carries out direction well, reads own name, counts to 10, asks meaning of words, knows colors, beginning to know difference between fact and fiction-lying, interested in environment, city, stores, etc.

hmmm.. hari ni baru la bkesempatan wat blog hopping. lama dah tinggalkan habit ni. dulu rajin sgt.. sambil tgk blog pra serata malaysia.. sambil cari idea untuk kelas.. so ptg ni try la.. haishhh.. pesal la 2-3 blog yg ramai followersnyer aku buka tetiba jer kuar warning malware... hmm dah kuar warning ni makna nyer aku x buka la takut dia masuk lak kat lappy aku ni... cukup la sekali di kaco dek malware ni... nak bersihkan sendiri x reti.. kena install software la plak.. skang ni dah x rajin cam dulu2 nak explore mende2 ni... zaman ICT ni semuanya bergerak pantas.. virus, malware, spyware dan suku sakatnya mbiak dgn cepat betul..

skang ni nak buat keje kat kelas mmg kena bawa lappy p sek. bukannya x der komputer tp komputer tu cam nak x nak jer bg aku guna. skrin monitor tu kejap kembang kejap menguncup.. wat aku pening pala jer nengoknya...

last week masa sibuk dgn pengisisan data SMPK... ramai la cikgu2 yg mengambil kesempatan tgk result dapat sambung study ke x .. ye la sistem asyik down jer.. ramai sgt yg keyin pada masa yg sama. balik pada bab sambung study ni.. teringin plak nak sambung study. but I'm really HATE EXAM!!!. tingin nak wat tesis la tp MALAS nak membaca jurnal yg melambak2.. moreover nak wat tesis ni tajuk kena la power tu lum masuk lg nak wat proposal... tingat dulu wat final project paper asyik kena reject jer proposal, org len dah start proposal ,aku tajuk pun x lepas2 lg. akhirnya siap gak final project paper aku dgn tajuk 'Perkaitan Tingkahlaku Keibubapaan Dgn Tahap Pencapaian Akademik Pelajar Istimewa Bermasalah Pendengaran' . uhuhuhu geng2 study grup dulu (5 org) aku sorang jer yg lum sambung study..sorang tu dah ready nak wat phd lg... yg best nyer 4 org jd cikgu (2 cikgu pra 2 cikgu khas) sorang lg keje dgn NGO but still relate dgn kanak2.. mungkin tunggu dah x larat nak layan budak2 baru aku sambung study kot.. keje pun lum cecah 10 thn lagi... pengalaman beh bharga dpd teori sbb teori yg kita blajar semua dpd negara barat... ada yg x sesuai dgn budaya kita...

pg khamis 6 org kena cek gigi sekali lg. ni kes2 blubang n goyang. alhamdulilah x de yg menangis. makin wat loyar buruk kat misi ada la.. berani sungguh la budak2 tahun ni.

key in data

masa utk key in data bdk dah bermula... ptg jumaat kena p taklimat pengisian data smpk (sistem maklumat prasekolah kebangsaan).. ada beza sket dpd yg lepas. tp yg ni mcm susah sket nak edit. my skul jd cth pastu peg tu ter taip 2x nama aku sbg guru. then nak delete pesal x leh la plak. aishhh.. tu lum lagi salah sorang murid tetiba nama dia tlh didaftar kat KEMAS la plak so aku nak edit x leh... ingatkan weekend ni leh settle so sok taklimat prkt zon dah x byk mende nak settle. ni pun ada 3 org budak lg x leh nak keyin melalui no surat beranak. nak try guna mykid no aku x bwk lak fail peribadi dorang .. uhuhuhu... ni la kelemahan dan kelebihan data online.

lately rasa cam susah lak nak berfikir.. penat sgt kot tu pasal otak rasa cam jammed dah. nak create worksheet pun payah.. dah la cuaca x menentu lak ni. sakit pala toksah cakap la. lega masalah cik T dah dapat diatasi... so leh sambung menghias kelas n buat apa2 yg patut. nak update b.log pun payah dah skang ni. line bb ni kejap ok kejap x ok. tp sejak 2011 mmg x ok..
